PHM 2213 Physical Pharmacy II - This course is a continuation of Physical Pharmacy I which consists of surfactant, polymer system, colloid, definition, preparation, dissolution, stability and electrophoresis measurements. Colloid distribution, colloid stability suspension: emulsion, Fluid rheology: Newtonian and non-Newtonian movements, measurements and application of rheology in pharmacy.
PHM 2222 Pharmacognosy - Introduction to the various aspects of Pharmacognosy: botany, cryptogamy, plant structure; its main components and structures, secondary metabolites related to pharmaceutics, natural products and their pharmacological effects, cultivation and the collection of crude products, microscopic characteristics, organoleptic, macroscopic, etc.
PHM 2232 Pharmaceutical Analysis II - This course is a continuation of pharmaceutical analysis I. This course discusses the various types of chromatography techniques used in the analysis of drugs, the basis of thin layer chromatography, electrochemical, atomic spectrometry, molecular, ultra-violet and florescence spectrometry.
PHM 2243 Body System I : Cardiovascular & Haematology System - Students will learn about basic anatomy, physiology and pathology of the cardiovascular system, pharmacology and medicinal chemistry of drugs acting on the cardiovascular system, introduction to the haematological system, coagulation of blood, haematinics and anticoagulants.
PHM 2252 Body System II : Respiratory - Basic anatomy/histology, physiology and pathology of the respiratory system. Pharmacology and medicinal chemistry of drugs that act on the respiratory system.
PHM 2262 Body System III : Gastrointestinal & Hepatobiliary Systems - Anatomy/ histology and physiology of the gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary systems. Common pathology involving in the gastrointestinal and hepato-biliary systems. Pharmacology and medicinal chemistry of drugs that act on the gastrointestinal and hepato-biliary system.
PHM 2272 Body System IV : Urinary System - Anatomy/ histology and physiology of the urinary system. Common pathology involving in the urinary system. Pharmacology and medicinal chemistry of drugs that act on the urinary system.
PHM 2282 Nutriceuticals & Cosmeticeuticals - Students are introduced to the various types of food additives and cosmetics that are available in the market, their uses, control, claims and counselling on these products.
PHM 2292 Industrial Pharmacy & Regulation – This course exposes the students to commercial production of drugs. It includes designing, production and control of pharmaceutical dosage form/ drug delivery system. Apart from development on drug delivery and new drugs, students will also be exposed to production processes, processing machinery and current techniques in quality control on the products. Statistical aspects in industrial pharmacy will be touched e.g for purposes of clinical trail, quality control, drug stability etc. Legal and regulatory aspects will be discussed in ensuring patients receive quality and effective drugs.
